Prototype is an open-world action-adventure video game where the game set in Manhattan, follows the story of a powerful amnesiac shapeshifter named Alex Mercer who must stop an outbreak of Blacklight, a plague that mutates individuals into hideous violent monsters.

Where the sequel, PROTOTYPE 2 is an open world action-adventure video game where the story follows a new protagonist, James Heller, as he goes on a quest of revenge to kill the original protagonist Alex Mercer and destroy the Blacklight virus.
