Can you play PS3, PS4, PS2 or even PS1 games on the new PlayStation 5 console?
UPDATE: It is confirmed via Interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s CEO Jim Ryan by Famitsu website, that the PS5 won't support PS3, PS2 or PS1 titles. Quote: "So, unfortunately, we couldn’t reach the implementation of such compatibilities" (regarding support for games of previous generations other than PS4, via siliconera.com website, translated). So no, the PlayStation 5 won't support for PS3, PS2, and PS1 titles.
Previous description:
Now it's only confirmed, as of the time of making this video, that the PS5 will have backward compatibility with thousands of PlayStation 4 games, but this will happen gradually as Sony ensures full compatibility of each game.
Regarding backward compatibility of the PlayStation 5 with older generation consoles, like the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 or PlayStation 1, well, this is not confirmed yet.
I believe that there is ah higher chance to see those available through PlayStation Now online game streaming services than seeing full support for PS1/PS2/PS3 on the new PS4 console.
