I got the new external PlayStation 5 drive, which is compatible with the PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro, and the Digital Edition – and I'm very satisfied. Anyone who wants to upgrade their digital PS5 with a disc drive later on will find a simple and well-thought-out solution directly from Sony.
Installation is straightforward: Simply follow the step-by-step instructions. After installation, the drive needs to be updated with the latest firmware and then registered. This is all quick and hassle-free.
What particularly surprised me was the noise level. From an arm's length (approx. 60–70 cm), the measured noise level was a pleasant 42 dB. Directly in front of the drive, it was 54 dB – absolutely within limits and not disturbing, even when playing discs or installing software.
