Unlike the main story, this race actually doesn't need to be won. In fact, you can retire right away before the race starts to save time. Of course the game will show different dialog, but proceeds to the "Warning" screen as if winning the race.

This is actually related back to the very beginning of the story during the conversation at the rooftop. Natsuki invited Takumi to go to the beach together. He seemed reluctant, but she told him that she would wear her swimsuit. Takumi immediately agreed afterwards. However, there is no continuation of that story in the game. This image grows an impression that Natsuki indeed goes to the beach, but it's unknown whether Takumi accompanies her or not. Probably yes.
