PT Hijinks at the orphanage / Lets Play Whitehaven
5Whitehaven was developed and published by Somnambulist Games in October 2021 and is a first-person psychological horror game. It is set in an old orphanage where you - a former teacher at said orphanage - have to find out the deep dark secrets that drove you away in the past.
As psychological horror games go, Whitehaven does a bit of PT and a bit of old school horror with some exploration, some - actually quite interesting - puzzles (I got massively stuck at one point but was able to brute force myself through) and a few documents and objects providing lore. The scares are a mixed bag. A few tropes but some moments were genuinely scary (to no one’s surprise: not the ones with the PT influence). All in all, I liked the experience, gameplay, voice over, audio and soundtrack and some of the puzzles were quite lovely.
However, it is not a best game of the year or outrageously unique. This is more for people who like the genre and who enjoy these kind of games. It will not rock your world but it will be an enjoyable hour or so with a few beautiful moments (and some eye rolls as well).
