665Puja-path is a much misunderstood word today. We go to temples, perform pujas etc. But if a child comes to us and asks what we are doing, we seldom have a valid answer. We mix all rituals, practices, worship, and prayers and label them together as puja-paath. There are many perceptions, opinions, and misconceptions about worship and rituals. This talk is an introduction to Puja. It attempts to explain the origin and basis of Hindu rituals, and to address questions like Aadibhautik, aadidaivik, and adhyatmik (physical, divine, and spiritual) purposes of Puja, and Panchopchar, shodashopchaar etc., different ways of puja among many others.
About the Speaker:
Dattraj Deshpande is a ‘Ghanapathi’ and Dashgranthi from Bangalore. His traditional priestly education began with oral teachings in the Guru-shishya tradition. He is a gold-medalist from Sanskrit University in Karnataka. He is currently a fulltime volunteer with the Indian Board of Education and is engaged in the revival of the Gurukul system of education.
