My friend got me a pair of WeMo Switches for my birthday. These small devices plugin to any outlet and provide 802.11 WiFi access to turn devices on and off. They are very easy to configure and control from your iOS device (iPad/iPhone). My plan is to write software for the PC that can interact with the switches and turn my cable modem on and off when it gets stuck or hung. The devices also interface with a service called IFTTT to provide automation based on events occurring online.
Did I turn it off? I must have turned it off. Did I go back in the bathroom after grabbing my coffee? There is no way I would forget that. Oh, forget it I gotta go back and check.
