
Punk Shot Arcade
Punk Shot plays like a traditionnal basketball game but with beat 'em up elements added to the gameplay and it's two against two.
Players can punch or kick their opponents also various obstacles such as fire, hole on the ground, crows who fly at players, cats who throw garbage on the floor etc, add interesting elements to the gameplay.
Slams, jump shots, and down-court heaves are all appropriate means of scoring. However, there are no fouls (and therefore no free throw shots), and more surprisingly no three-point shots, but you’ll quickly find that it doesn’t mean you can’t close the gap on the opposition quickly.
Soon into a game, you’ll notice that as soon as someone scores, the other team immediately takes possession of the ball under the basket, and is ripe for an attack.
The version i played is the Japan one so i'll be talking about that , all you need to know about USA and EU versions is that there are two teams in the game; The Ramblers and The Slammers.
Each team has two different characters: for The Ramblers, Basher and Stallion, and for The Slammers, Hair and Spike. You can play Versus or Co-Op, there is also a cabinet type that supports 4 players and 2 vs 2.
Now the game shown in this video supports two players only,but it has 3 selectable game modes:
1P vs CPU which is the Tourney/Story with an AI partner.
1P vs 2P aka the classic versus mode and it's only Ramblers vs Slammers
1P & 2P vs CPU which is a two players co-op Tourney/Story mode.
In Tourney/Story mode you play as Stallion with his partner Spike known as West Siders team, attempting to beat the others 4 teams, those team are:
Ramblers (Basher & Flash)
Slambers (Fist & Hair)
Wanders (Boomer & Rad)
Jammers(Fist & Slash)
If you win every round, you play versus another extra team. The Eastsiders (Basher & Hair).
In every match you can continue if you lose, but not in the extra stage ,so you have to win, cause losing gives you a "shameful display" ending.
Every characters has the same stats, major differences between matches will be the increasing AI CPU difficulty.
Up to three different areas are available (each with their unique sets of obstacles): The Park, Downtown and the Harbor.
Controls scheme is pretty simple, one button for pass/kick ,one for shoot/punch and a joystick to control one character.
Pushing both buttons allows you to grab opponents and do a suplex but if your timing is wrong it will only push the opponents down and you will fall with them,if you miss, you fall into the ground alone.
You can use those two buttons to control AI actions too,just like Arch Rivals.
