Thorn has received a few buffs in Season 23 including a catalyst which grants access to a new perk refined soul and the ability to overflow its magazine up to a maximum of 40 by collecting remnants. These combined with its poison spreading abilities and hand cannons now established position in the meta of taking on orange bar major enemies does it actually have a viable spot?
I think so. By itself it can do work with poison increasing its base damage by up to 138% and being able to go infinite on ammo now due to the changes in regards to overflowing the magazine. But it becomes even better with the warlock exotic Necrotic grips, with these equipped thorn final blows spread a secondary poison type to all nearby targets. This one instead increases in damage over time and will continue to spread to other targets. Making this hand cannon not only great single target damage but also one of the best AoE damage spreading weapons out there.
