Hello! Welcome back to Pwnery's Penny Arcade, and our continuing coverage in Season 6, Episode 4 of the Long Dark's Survival Sandbox set on Stalker mode, the 2nd hardest setting for it to give us a marginally better chance to survive as we trek around the Great Bear area. This season focuses on Blackrock Penitentiary and the surrounding areas. Ultimately this series will likely cover every map in the game to give to a taster of the points of interest and the like.

Today we take our newfound knowledge acquired from the Northern Abandoned mine, and loot the booty in the mechanical rooms of the Penitentiary. We have to wait what feels like an eternity for an Aurora that usually pops up every night you *don't* want one, and finally get inside ... to find .... Pwnery's Reloading Bench! (well.. sorta, if you don't know what that is, check my other playlists!). Afterwards, we try our best to flesh out the remainder of the map along the Southwest corner, and sorta fail in the process. We uncover a LOT, but we fell short of the ultimate mark down there and end up finding our way back to a familiar spot to help us quickly backtrack.

Parts of the proceeds go towards Canadian wildlife and forestry conservation too - a noble effort for a game developer. Keep the wild, looking wild I suppose. I can appreciate that having frequented Kodiak Island, Alaska a few times in my life (heck, I may retire there some day).

So as for my video series, I'll spare the storyline mode since it's been covered at length and ad nauseum by many gamers and reviewers alike, but as a gamer guy, a gun guy, a tinkerer, and an outdoorsman, my inner geek would love to share with you the sandbox survival mode in this game. The experiences you have in this game are not guaranteed to be a survival technique mind you, however some of the basics of survival are very well covered in it - such as basic orienteering, and weight management, and the importance of watching your caloric intake - real "common sense" kinda stuff if you ever find yourself out in the wild. I'll take you as far as I can in a 5-part mini-series and hopefully get us at least off of one map into the next area.
