Q&A: What version of Burn do you like the most? Mardu Burn! MTG - Magic the Gathering
Finally getting around to answering some of your deck specific 15,000 Sub Q&A submissions.
Question: What version of Burn do you personally like the most
Answer: Mardu Burn
Reasons: First off, I think the most powerful card in all of the burn strategies is Boros Charm, that leaves Boros, Naya, and Mardu as viable options. I also like the range that black offers. Bump in the night become Lava Spike numbers 5-8. I think it is just flat out superior than shard volley or any other direct damage spell. Being able to flash it back actually does happen on occasion. Lastly, crackling doom is incredibly powerful at the moment. A lot of strategies in modern are about landing 1-2 big threats like Tasigur or Angler. Crackling Doom solves both of these while still doing 2 damage. What I like most about doom is regardless of if your opponent has a creature out, you can still cast doom for 2 damage - something that searing blood, searing blaze or self-inflicted wound doesn't accomplish.
So why not Naya? I think Naya is a fine choice. Atarka's Command and Destructive Revelry are both very powerful. However, I don't think either are necessary. Enchantments can be annoying to deal with, especially Leyline of Sanctity. However, Leyline is very weak against a number of decks at the moment and just isn't seeing much sideboard play. The main card "hate" cards you need to be able to answer are artifacts, especially dragons claw. Smash to smithereens takes cares of these. After testing Atarka's command and Skullcrack both in the same deck, I came to the conclusion that skullcrack is usually enough, therefore I think that Mardu provides everything Naya does, as well as cards like Rain of Gore and Crackling Doom.
