QT30E - Nucleus - An Approachable Early PS3 Shooter That Holds Up Well
The newest video in the QT30E series is the #PS3 version of #Nucleus, a game developed by Kuju Entertainment and published by Sony Computer Entertainment.
This is a game i've played before, but it was a long time ago and my memory of it wasn't really great. I had bought the DLC for the game, but in this video i played through nearly all the tutorial levels which came with the based game.
I was surprised by how approachable the game is. it gives the players the choice of playing the tutorial levels or going for the more advanced levels. But if you do choose to do the tutorial levels, then it becomes a score chase. the online leaderboards are understandably not online anymore, but the game still has replay-ability in that you can try to beat your own scores. In game, the text on screen is big when it tells you simply what you need to complete a level. but before that, on the stage select screen it also offers tips on how you can beat the stage. This player first thinking is something some modern games lack but it also meant going in after soo long away i never felt intimidated and was able to play.
The only downside i experienced was that the red bacteria was a little hard to see at times against the deep green backgrounds. it's a 720p game, that i uploaded as 1080p, so it can suffer a bit from a lack of clarity. there were a couple of times i got hit and i really didn't see what hit me. this game might benefit from a TV screen being manually set brighter.
But overall, i did enjoy myself. i still recommend this game. i admit that it's stages and themes may not be for everyone, but as a twin stick shooter it holds up really well and it's far more accessible than some other games i've been playing. the game and it's expansion pack DLC are both still up on the #PlayStation3 #PlayStationNetwork.
