Quake Champions - with Steam Play Proton compatibility layer for Linux - High Settings - Nyx
NYX in Quake Champions - at HIGH Settings with Proton 3.16.4 - the Steam Play Proton compatibility layer from Valve.
[Note that FPS are lost in recording]
= GOOD =
Since latest Quake update, (Mid November)
- the game is working (again) out of the box with Steam Play Proton.
- the graphic settings can be put up to ULTRA (except for textures that must stay in "LOW" )
= OK =
- performance in higher settings are MAX 60FPS in ULTRA and 80FPS in HIGH (without recording). While recording the performance here can drop down to 40'ish frame rate.
= BAD =
- Lag fest in first 25 seconds of the round
Big stuttering at the beginning of a map to fill in the shader cache (the first game only), but it is ok after the cache is built.
- performance with higher settings could be better ..
- Why no Vulkan back-end :( ?

[*] The Proton compatibility layer uses technologies developed for wine. Proton, the tool that Steam Play uses to provide Windows compatibility, contains a custom version of Wine as well as additional libraries developed alongside.
Wine is free but you can support the development by buying a copy of a CrossOver product from Codeweavers at https://www.codeweavers.com/products
https://www.codeweavers.com/about/blo...
And you already support Valve by buying games on Steam :D.
Important Remarks:
1. All games bought on steam and played on Linux client (including using the proton compatibility layer) count as a Linux purchase !.
2. Also support companies that ports games to Linux directly by buying "real" native ports !.
