Google Earth models are okay far away but blurry up close. Using a mixture of terrain paints, texture decals, baked decal normals, and forest items on a terrain block that is level with the model's surface.
Well, maybe an inch above the model's surface.
I used the Google GIS and Meshroom models from Google Earth for the base models. They basically are there as a template. Think of a paint by number painting. When the track is completed there will be no use for that model.
Additional models can be made for the scenery that exceeds the terrain block if needed. Should be nobody in close viewing distance to them.
