If you want to loop a track then scroll to the chapter markers (not the timestamps!) and click or tap ‘View All’. This brings up a playlist-style Chapter Selection menu where you get the options to share or loop each chapter. I don’t know why YouTube doesn’t show this interface by default.
Dooyong (두용실업) is a South Korean developer who got really close to the relative mainstream (one of their games even got published by Mitchell Corporation). They remind me of Toaplan because of their obsession with vertical shoot ‘em ups and their flip-flop from either military or sci-fi themes. Their space game graphics are also a grimier version of the aesthetics seen in Truxton and Vimana. If I were to extend the comparison even further, I’d say R-Shark is Dooyong’s Batsugun or their swan song like HardcoreGaming101 put it since its their last shooter game. It’s a good game but for the mid 90s it was wildly behind the times and Dooyong eventually shut down because they couldn’t make 3D games.
Korean arcade games of the 80s and 90s seem to have a unique musical sound all of their own. Even if that sound is thin and reedy FM synths that are badly programmed so they just end up sounding glitched. R-Shark fortunately escapes this issue because the music is actually pretty good despite the outdated FM synth sounds. It clearly takes after other shmup soundtracks with a classical flair that is so far beyond Dooyong’s other games that it is insane. Which is part of why I chose to go with it. I like the urgency of Jenuk (Stage BGM 3) so check that out.
The HardcoreGaming101 feature on Dooyong: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/korea/part1/company-dooyong.htm
It’s a pretty good history of the company but it’s missing Super-X (their game with Mitchell) and also has some NSFW content because Dooyong made games of that variety too; it’s hidden away though so don’t worry about being jump-scared by porn or anything like that.
