As far as I know, Cicici HAS to be the other town member you recruit for Chapter 1, simply because everyone else is not available- be it for normal reasons, or AFD blocks being in the way.


Despite being an early game boss, I always thought Cicini was actually pretty difficult considering shes supposed to be fought very early on, even on a normal playthrough.

First off, the computer phase:
Its quite fun and probably the best taste of bullet hell at this point of the game, but can be rather difficult if it uses particulary mean combinations. I strongly suggest to restart if you get hit even 1 time here. You really need the HP for later...

Cicini herself shouldt be TOO hard if you know how her attacks works (And if you are on AFD mode, you should), but she can be rather evil with her gun attacks... thanks to AFD blocks, you dont even have Rabi Slippers, so the only way to dodge them is to walljump- when shes about to shot, either get behind her or be already near the wall or you simply wont make it (1:18).
You just have to get a feeling to when she is about to shot (After multiple attempts you should get a feel on when she is about to attack)

The real problem is her Cut-In attack (2:10)
The first one is doable, can be rather tricky and I definitely died to it a few times, but the REAL annoying attack is the 2nd one.

This attack (2:23) is disproportionately hard to dodge and it hardly has a place in the early game if you ask me.
Maybe its not so much the attack itself but rather the fact you dont have Amulets or basically any items that could help you survive this.

But in any case, this is the run killer. It was a problem when I was a newbie on my first Hard playthrough, it was a problem on my Imp/X-Bunny playthroughs, and it is STILL a problem now!

Also, normally these do a lot more damage than shown here. In fact, under normal circumstances I should have died there.
I think I survived because for whatever reason Cicini didnt gain the Attack Up buff until *after* the whole Cut-In attack finished, I believe she normally gets it before it starts.
Maybe I didnt dealt enough damage to make her get Attack Up? Whatever the case, I am not complaining.
