Racing Dynamics (2002) - Every PC Rally Game
Racing Dynamics by Professor.H / gamestudio CLUBMAN, 2002.
This is a small freeware game, which you can still download from https://www.vector.co.jp/download/file/win95/game/fh308161.html (the latest v0.7 version from 2003). An older version (v0.3) is available on caiman.us
Containing 4 cars, one of which being the unofficial WRC Ford Focus seen here, this is a hot lapping game with only 3 tracks (one of which is available with both sunny and snowy conditions, so technically just 2 track layouts!).
Developed by the mysterious sounding Professor.H, otherwise known as Tetsuya Higo, this game also had a semi-sequel with more features and content, called Racing Dynamics Plus. But I'll cover that version separately!
As an aside, it turns out the developer previously worked on Xtreme Drivin' and Xtreme Drivin' Classics, which I've already covered on this playlist as it featured a Lancia Stratos rally car.
Sound and graphics on this one are okay, but handling is a bit tricky; very slow on keyboard, overly twitchy on gamepad, and on my Logitech G920 (used here) it uses the full 900 degree range (even if set less in the Logitech software), making it a bit frantic to handle! I disabled force feedback to allow me to spin the wheel a bit quicker for this video, but it's still easy to catch the edge of the track and ruin your lap times!
Note: it is possible to run the game widescreen, but I have to use dgVoodoo2 to get the full 2560x1440 my PC allows, and in widescreen the menus and some overlay items are stretched fat, so I've kept this to 4:3 aspect ratio here. For the semi-sequel I may try full widescreen to compare!
