Was feeling pretty good when I got early boots out of agina, and then picked up the mirror early from Skull Woods.
Up at death mountain I decided to take a peek into TR "just in case" since I was already there and we had bombos for a while. I was rewarded with the fire rod, but didn't have the guts to continue on. I thought about it for about 5 seconds and then decided to bail.
Tough decision. Trying to think objectively...I think I'm ok with what I did. I still had SP open (crystal dungeon!), IP, 2 chests in TT, flipper checks, zora, smithy chain, spike cave all open. Just by the numbers alone, the odds that ice rod are in TR are probably less than 30% and routing wise it just makes more sense to go to SP.
Definitely a gamble that you could have made though, and I can only imagine how it must have felt to see ice rod on the very last chest of laser bridge, hahaha.
As is, instead I last-locationed the ice rod after checking everything else. Boo...
