Ratched is an American psychological thriller drama web television series about the character of the same name from Ken Kesey's 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Created by Evan Romansky and Ryan Murphy, the series stars Sarah Paulson in the title role and serves as a prequel to the novel. It premiered on Netflix on September 18, 2020.[2]
Ratched is a suspenseful drama series that tells the origin story of asylum nurse Mildred Ratched. In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred's stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.

Edward kills the clergy and it turns out he did this as one of them actually had an affair with his mother that led her to being taken to a whore house and he was taken to an orphanage. These are some chilling scenes and sadly this chilling set up set me up for a great idssapointment. 6 months later his sister ends up going to the hospital where he is being taken and decides to stay at a motel which becomes a central location for the show and has an interview at the hospital but forged her entire letter from doctor hannover who himself is searching for funding to conduct his cutting edge and gruesome treatments for his own patients only to be rejected by the governor. Instantly watched buts heads with current head nurse nurse bucket. Rebuffed by nurse bucket she sees one of the nurses in the hospital having a jolly good time with an orderly and soon has her interview with hannover. Hannover is easily the weakest part of the entire show I think and the constant neurotic overacting make him comically bad and in general a very pointless character as he provides nearly no value for characterisation and nearly no nuance and is just a bad plot device for the show.
Watched eventually blackmails the nurse and with a bit of force places herself on the hospital staff. She is able to facilitate it that she saves a religious leader who she actually poisoned herself and as a by product this causes a media circus meaning the governor will fund the hospital. Hannover starts to take nitrous doing his best mason greenwood impression as some of his patients talk to each other but they are here to be lobotomised. This was a barbaric procedure that featured heavily in the movie leading jack nicholosons character to put a lobby victim out of their misery.
However the funding is a double edged sword as this would mean the governor now wants the newly dubbed clergy killer edward to be deemed fit for trial and this will form the backbone of the story as watched is essentially doing a prison break in manipulating events so she can get her brother ouut of the place. It turns out one of the clergy were alive and survived the night but watched works to make it so he will never tell his story after befriending him and subsequent lobotomising him.
Sadly the show has a lot of filler in it as we have entire scenes and episodes dedicated to hydro therapy used as conflict between bucket and watched but again it all feels superfluous and episode 4 just felt so pointless. The show becomes even more ridiculous as a dance is planned after ratched is made head nurse. Ratched as a cold and calculating character starts to become abandoned as she feels bad for people and even helps some characters escape and I am unsure what story they are trying to tell. We have a new character charlotte come in who has multiple personalities and is being treated by hannover but becomes distraught at the dance as both the clergy killer and the nurse shoot a guard and escape together. I found this to be totally ridiculous and pointless as the story of watched trying to help her brother reform who isn’t technically evil as he became this way stupid but it is no where near as pointless as the storyline of watched slowly realising she is a lesbian with the woman who gets shot.
