Rather different episode | Horizon Forbidden West | Episode 18
Hey Everyone, it's me again; your not-so-favorite ophibious back with another Horizone forbidden west stream. But in today's episode, we are taking a different route where we talk about the game design, such as different machine interactions, side quests, jobs (low-tier side quests), map/level design, and many more!
As we progress into the story, you can have countless battles over and over a long period against machines in very hard difficulty where you would have to grind for different machine parts. If you are not careful enough, you will damage the needed parts because you couldn't hit your shots. Or you could enable the available in-game cheat code, where you lower the difficulty to story mode to grind for the parts and again turn it back up when you feel like a sweat! I am gonna shamelessly admit I have been doing this for the last 2 days as I am a working person; I don't really have the time to put all those hours into learning and going through different possible scenarios to get what I want. When the game is almost 90 hours long for 100% completion, you don't want to make it harder to increase those numbers 🐸
Now let's talk about the game mechanics a bit. Throughout the horizon journey, you might feel like the game is super time-consuming when you are doing salvage missions as you would have a hard time picking up different objects as they play animation every time you do it. I'm so happy that Guerrilla Games realized we might appreciate a faster looting mechanism when we are out in the wild, killing machines for parts. They don't tell you about this, but it's hidden inside the general settings of the game where you can toggle off the pick-up animation, and the experience becomes fluid as there would be no pick-up animation for solo objects anymore. You would still see that while salvaging any container or piles! Now let's talk about the hunting wild animals part. Honestly, this is the worst part of the game for me. It takes forever to find small animals in the dense vegetation of this game. I swear I love the beautiful dynamic vegetation, but I feel like there should be a mode in the focus where it activates hunting mode where all the animals around you in proximity are highlighted. That would be a lifesaver for us. of course, if anyone wants, they can toggle that off in the settings. Or, simply don't enable hunting mode in the first place!
I love playing side missions in this game! Or doing jobs even feels like I'm playing the main story! The way Guerrilla Games has incorporated different side jobs feels like they are stories on their own. The sheer dynamic conversational interactivity is the best implementation of this game. You wouldn't feel left out while playing side jobs; that is the best feeling ever if you want to enjoy any game without thinking twice! All the NPCs have their own dialogue and animations, while playing the mission feels like a movie. I would admit they are not helpful when you are in a fight engaged with enemies, but they are fun to play with. Sometimes, I would feel left out if there was no interactivity like this. Every NPC has beautiful detail, just like the main protagonist, so every element complements each other in this game. The level design is proper, with proper vegetation in place. It's not like they are putting hide spots without thinking twice. Most of the hiding spots feel logical and properly placed to compliment the combat or stealth you are playing.
