Rayman 1 is one of the best games ever made. It was also one of the hardest. Was it so hard that it set the franchise up for failure? Did the difficulty of Rayman one hurt its run? Probably, but it wouldn't be the game it is, if it was actually properly playtested.

Rayman 1 starts off quite tame and easy, only to backhand you into oblivion when the games throws multiple difficulty spikes your way. It uses an old-fashioned lives system which made your room for error even smaller.

In this video I take a look at Rayman 1 and examine if the difficulty is too steep for the game it tried to be.

I played the PsOne version on the ePSXeEmulator for this video.
