Raytheon secures deal to produce Patriot air defense systems for the Netherlands
Raytheon, a business unit of RTX, has secured a USD 529 million contract to deliver a Patriot air and missile defence system to the Netherlands.
The contract encompasses a single fire unit, which includes a radar system, launchers, command and control stations, and other essential support equipment. This acquisition underscores the Netherlands’ commitment to strengthening its air defence capabilities amid rising security concerns in Europe.
In its latest version, known as PAC-3 [Patriot Advanced Capability-3], the system offers significant improvements in accuracy, range, and tracking and interception capabilities.
PAC-3 is designed to handle a wide range of threats, including short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, drones, and enemy aircraft.
The core element of the PAC-3 system is the PAC-3 MSE [Missile Segment Enhancement] missile. This missile is equipped with advanced guidance and interception technologies that enhance its effectiveness in destroying high-speed and maneuverable targets.
