RDR2: [WR] Explorer Challenges Speed Run 18:31
5My first verified world record on Speedrun.com. I suspect this will not stand for very long as this time should be beatable by one of the regular speed runners.
I reckon I could shave a 30 seconds off with a few more tries but as promised to my subscribers I am now focused on my in-depth RDR 100% guide. This run was done Tuesday around 1pm GMT about an hour before RDR released on the PC! Probably a regular speed runner may knock a minute off the time using this route, maybe a bit more. Sub 18 is definitely possible.
However, what is interesting is that my route introduced an innovation that may likely become standard in future runs:
I included the High Stakes Map, and going from Caliban's Seat to Cumberland falls, removing the need to go to O'Creagh's run. Getting the last Jack Hall Gang Treasure is a bit time sink because of having to ford the lake, so not having to get this is a big time save.
I also run it as it as Arthur is Chapter 2 so fast travel is available to Horseshoe Overlook (think this is quicker than from Valentine), which I think is a minor time save. Also jumping down from the campsite at the top of Calibans seat rather than following the ledge shaves off a few seconds if done right.
I mucked up the splits a bit by hitting the split button twice at Caliban's seat twice, but corrected this at Cotorra Springs.
The horse did it's best to mess up my run at Bolger Glade and the Serpents eye - so there are obvious time saves on this, but this shows the potential of this new route, given such a time is possible with some mistakes along the way.
