Red Alert Remastered | Testing a Custom Mission "Gone in 60 Minutes"
While this channel is not know of C&C videos, I've made a plenty of Red Alert 1 stuff in the past. This mission is called "Gone in 60 minutes", and it is an Allied underground mission where you have to escape from an "exploding" facility. This mission was created around 2007 for Red Alert: Aftermath, and it had so many triggers that they had to be reduced in order to prevent the game from crashing.I've converted several old mission I've made for the Remastered Collection, but the results have been mixed due to the new Map Editor that comes with the Remastered Collection. It seems the new Map Editor insist on rendering every custom "Country" properties needed for missions obsolete. This extends to manually set TechLevel values, which are absolutely necessary for any custom mission with buildable structures. In other words, some of my missions' tech trees were absolutely broken, and the player could only have tech level 1 build tree, making many mission unbeatable. The only way to keep the TechLevel values is to manually edit the map file with notepad.Sadly, that's not all there is to it. Yesterday, I tried uploading my mission "Death from the sea" to Steam workshop. Guess what, even I set the TechLevel values to where they should have been prior to uploading the file to Steam Workshop, the new Map Editor editor managed to STILL reset those custom Country properties.
In other words, at the moment it seems uploading any mission with ingame base building to Steam Workshop is a waste of time, as the new Map Editor destroys any custom Country properties, if not while saving your mission file, at least when you upload your mission file on Steam Workshop. I don't know how this applies to missions made from scratch with the new Map Editor, but from the looks of it, it's capabilities compared to C&C Raed (which was used to make this mission, for example) are very limited, and the best way to play any custom missions with the Remastered Collection (at least in case of Red Alert) is to manually upload / download them on / from a website rather than uploading them on Steam Workshop.
Hopefully the issue with the new Map Editor will be fixed in the future, if not, there probably won't be an awful of single player missions laying around on Steam Workshop.
