Firefly's guide recommends blowing all your money on crafting items. due to the item reset. Unlike me, don't bother buying buff foods, since the next boss isn't hard enough to justify it.
3:55 Vathen Manor
Atrius takes out a ton of guards by himself, which really begs the question of why Pots is even here. Note that the weak healing item the soldiers drop will not be affected by the item reset, so you can farm that to make things easier for the future.
Steffon Vathen weakly tries to justify his family's takeover as the greater good, but Atrius isn't buying it. Pots goes after Vathen's associate through the secret exit.

15:20 Rushed Guilt Scene
Pots threatens to torture a guard to death if he doesn't spill the beans on where Vathen's associate went. The associate is Eron Mythos from Tallas, and the guard's throat is slit immediately after spilling that info.
Eron makes the mistake of going back to his house while an assassin is following him. Apparently, Vathen was forcing Eron to give him money and the latter would rather not associate with the crime family at all. Unfortunately, Pots doesn't care about his circumstances and kills him for being a witness. Unfortunately, this happened in front of Eron's family, who now have to be killed for being witnesses to this murder. Pots shows a bit of guilt when faced with the task of killing the whole family, including a little girl. However, he goes through with it after remembering Atrius's teachings.
IMO, the guilt he felt and his actions don't add up and feel rushed and halfhearted. I feel that the game should have emphasized the guild's teachings by showing flashbacks where Pots was densensitized, but even then, should he be resensitized so easily? Alternatively, I think it would be better if Atrius came along so that Pots wouldn't even have the option of backing out from the family murder. Plus, doing it like that would give Pots another reason to ditch Atrius. Another choice would be to have Pots not fully regret his actions until he meets a vengeful Virgil Mythos.
Also, Pots probably should have tried faking his death rather than send a resignation letter to Atrius.
Yes, I heard the writing is supposed to get better later, but remember, first impressions are still very important. Some people like me might continue giving the game a chance, but a lot of others won't. I heard that they already redid parts of chapter 1, but I still feel it has room for improvement.
20:00 Taking a Ship and Losing My Items
Pots decides to take a ship to Sorbithia and pays for both his fare and a mage's, due to a captain who is bigoted against mages. Unfortunately, the ship is taken over by Osirian Pirates, who take all our gear and consumables. Fortunately, the pirates aren't good at keeping you from looting their barrels anyway. You'll have to find some materials to get the mage, Virgil Mythos (awkward), to destroy the chains and free everyone. You'll recruit Bruger and Kaelas to fill out the other party member slots.
The enemies are actually really weak despite being minotaurs. Just be sure to savescum any traps and grab all items you can before talking to the pirate captain.
49:39 Boss: Captain Bronn
He has some weak allies and you can also steal from him. Sadly, beating him doesn't get you all your old inventory back for some reason. Did he already sell all your possessions?
52:35 Ulwi
This small village on the Farlen continent has some basic facilties in case you didn't get enough gear from the ship, but everything is expensive compared to the enemy gold drops. Virgil and Bruger can be rerecruited in the town while Kaelas can be rerecruited east of town. Unlike me, don't buy too much gear, since you can find a lot of them in chests later.
