Dancer is an ability exclusive to the Pokémon Oricorio. We talk a bit about the bird, the Dancer ability, and what counts as a Dance move.

Oricorio looks like it's based on the Hawai'ian Honeycreeper. The Baile style looks a lot like the ʻIʻiwi. (If we ignore the flamenco theme for just a second.) ʻIʻiwi is in the thumbnail instead of Honeycreeper for artistic reasons. It's pretty awesome that each island in Alola is named after a color in Hawai'ian language (ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi). Those color names correspond to the color of the Oricorio you'll find there and the Tapu found there (as well as anything aethetically related.)

As always, we have to dive a bit into Japanese language to explain some move or ability intricacies. For the sake of brevity, I will oversimplify some Japanese concepts, because the Japanese pokémon data is evidence. This is not a college level Japanese course, so more than the basics in a 11 minute video is overkill. The average viewer doesn't have Japanese language as a hyperfixation. This is also why Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji are color coded for accessibility.

I reference my last video about kicking. In that video, I don't include Aqua Step as a kick because the move I cannot say with 100% certainty that it is a leg strike, thus I can't include it. 90% isn't 100%. You could use fast dance steps to get in close and punch. Plus the animation uses the floating tail feathers, which are not disembodied leg drones, are they? Yes, Quaquaval is all about dance, Kick strength, and maybe capoeira, so it is a reasonable assumption, but as we've seen, when localizers assume, we get jank situations where abilities and moves are recontextualized based on their distribution. I'm trying to avoid that. If you code Aqua Step as a kick in a mod or say it is in your own video, that's fine, it basically is.

Feel free to use the mechanics or ideas for Pokémon Mods, Romhacks, or even your own game. It's a common enough idea that I wouldn't try to claim ownership of something anyone would come up with.

The footage of break dancers comes from Yakuza 0 (in Japan it's known as "Like A Dragon").
