Remembrances of Games Past, Part #2 - Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle (Atari 2600) (1982)
28"Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle" is a simple but notoriously unforgiving platformer. This is the Atari 2600 version which I remember playing a lot in the late 1980s (most previous YouTube videos of this game are from the ColecoVision version, which has somewhat better graphics and sound).
This video shows the first level, and every subsequent level in the game follows the same basic pattern but adds enemies and repeats sequences several times in order to make the level longer and more challening.
The unusual aspect of "Smurf" is that the player character is instantly killed if he so much as touches the various obstacles in the game (such as fences, steep slopes or even furniture!).
