During the Industry Pool I have filmed the Renault Megane RS doing multiple laps on track.

The car packs a 276bhp punch from its downsized turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, which also appears in the new Alpine A110 coupe.

However, it has been tweaked to produce 276bhp and 390Nm of torque.

Exactly what this will translate to out on the road is still unknown, as performance figures have not yet been released.

Renault will likely publish these details over the next few months.

The Megane RS is based on the standard hatchback but features a much bolder and sportier design.

It is also wider at the front and the rear and features F1-inspired chequered flag LED lights and sits on new alloy wheels available in both 18-inches and 19-inches.

The car on display in Frankfurt was fines in Tonic Orange, which is a new colour which has been added to the range.

Two transmission options are available for customers to chose from – a six-speed manual or six-speed dual clutch automatic.

Launch control function is also an optional feature as is the multi-change-down function.

Five different driving modes are also available – Comfort, Normal, Sport, Race and Person – which will change the way the engine performs and responds.

The car also gets four-wheel-drive which should help with grip and handling both on and off the track.

Inside the car you’ll find performance bucket seats which can be finished in Alcantara or carbon fibre weave materials.

Aluminium driver pedals also replace the standard plastic ones to give its a sportier feel.

At the centre of the dashboard is an 8.7-inch portray touchscreen which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and also control the navigation and audio.
