Resident Evil 4 (GameCube) - Handgun & Knife Only, No Merchant, Professional Difficulty
Rules:
Handgun & Knife Only
This is mostly self-explanatory but it is worth mentioning a few caveats. Melee attacks, and other types of kills such as using explosive barrels, friendly fire or other indirect methods to dispatch enemies such as kicking them off of cliffs or using the waste disposal crane are permitted. Throwing any type of grenade is not allowed, but simply holding one for the slight running speed increase is allowed and I will be doing this with eggs as well.
No Merchant
Under absolutely no circumstances am I allowed to use any of the Merchant’s services. There are exactly two occasions in the game where you are forced to interact with him and in both cases I must exit his menu immediately.
I normally don’t like running past enemies rather than fighting them in games like this but combat simply isn’t an option for a lot of this playthrough. Without taking advantage of a trick to make the game drop more ammo for you which is detailed in the guide below and done in 1-1, you simply do not have enough ammo to make it past a few key scenes, most notably Salazar and this isn’t even taking into account enemies like Regeneradors which you simply don’t have any reason to tackle in this run since they only drop money and the time investment required to kill one makes them no more than a time and ammo dump.
I did what I could to edit out the bulk of the game’s loading screens which there were a fair few of given that this is the GameCube version. Some of them had background noise that might make it slightly jarring when it skips ahead by a few seconds but it shouldn’t be anything too bad.
This is being played on a genuine GameCube copy of the game with an official first party GameCube controller on my Nintendo Wii. To my knowledge, there is no difference between playing this on GameCube or Wii since the latter simply emulates the former so I got pretty close to the original GameCube experience that I was going for.

Shout out to VMerken for making it and going through the game with this ruleset many more times and much more diligently than I ever could. Absolute legend.
