The headline refers to the upcoming video game Resident Evil Requiem, not a movie. Capcom's ninth main installment in the franchise is set for release on February 27, 2026, and will feature both traditional zombies and new types of mutating enemies.
Requiem will introduce a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent who also happens to be the daughter of journalist Alyssa Ashcroft. Grace’s personality is described as easily frightened and socially awkward, making her a less traditional Resident Evil lead.
The news stems from the reveal at Summer Game Fest 2025, where Capcom announced the next mainline title in the horror series, confirming its release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The story begins in a hotel where a string of unusual deaths has taken place, and as the investigation unfolds, Grace becomes entangled in another outbreak tied to the infamous Raccoon City legacy.
Developers have stated the game will include standard zombies, but also new enemy types whose appearance and behavior will change mid-fight, forcing players to adapt their combat strategies.
The game's story is set approximately 30 years after the city's destruction in Resident Evil 3.
