Retro and Reminisce // Flexing GZDooM's Muscle with Friday the 13th *AND* Legend of Zelda Mods!!
Once again we have two excellent examples of how Modding can completely change the immersion of an originally intended design.
First up we have Friday the 13th: Jason's DooM, by Kontra_Kommando, translating the misunderstood LJN NES Classic into FPS fun. While it's simplistic overall, it's very well designed and replicates the feel of Jason stalking you while randomly teleporting. Your goal is to down Jason to get the Blue Card Key, giving you access to the Outside Area that contains a Shotgun. Jason comes back for a second attack phase, where defeating him completes the Stage. Yeah, it's pretty awesome!!
But secondly, and most importantly, is Legend of Doom by DeTwelve. What blows my mind here is just how perfectly Legend of Zelda translates into DooM's Engine. Simply put, Mods like this should not work, let alone exist. Yet I found myself engaged as if I was playing the NES classic and had to put my Controller down so I could end the Stream.
For anyone who is a Gamer, or loves F13th and/or Legend of Zelda... you OWE it to yourself to check these out!! Modded Releases are truly what make Communities tick, but also showcase the modular power of the PC platform.
