In this episode, we share the news from Retro-Bit on a new collectors edition re-release they've collaborated with IREM on, this is Undercover Cops for the Super Nintendo.

Chapters:
00:00 - 1:32 Introduction
1:33 - 3:48 - Collector's Set Pack-Ins
3:49 - 4:54 - Cartridge Overview
4:55 - 6:16 - Manual Overview
6:17 - Final Thoughts

IREM and Retro-Bit have a long history of reaching into the archives and bringing some of the most popular and hard-to-get games back into distribution. I am lucky enough to own their Holy Diver, R-Type Returns, and Metal Storm Collectors sets, and not only do they bring games that weren't widely available in the USA (or available at all!) or hard to get titles due to price out to the masses, but they also include some amazing bonus and pack-in items. IREM and Retro-Bit have teamed up yet again, this time bringing Undercover Cops to the US and EU for the first time.

For those unfamiliar with Undercover Cops, it was released in 1992 for the Super Famicom to rave reviews. This side-scrolling beat 'em up became a cult classic in Japan, but never saw an official release in the USA or Europe. As time went on, people began to import the game, and now, nearly 30-years later, the price for loose cartridges is between $200-$500, with complete games ranging into the thousands of dollars. Working with IREM, Retro-Bit has secured the rights to re-release Undercover Cops, translated to English for the first time, with a number of bonus and collectible items included, as they normally do.

There will be two different versions of Undercover Cops released, a Standard and Collectors Edition. In addition, there will also be US and EU versions. The Standard Edition includes what they are calling the Mutant SNES Cartridge, Collectible Cartridge Box, Full-Color Instruction Manual, and Exclusive 2-sided poster. The Collectors edition ups the ante and includes the Mutant SNES Cartridge, Hard-embossed City Sweeper Packaging and Outer Slipcover with Exclusive Artwork, collectible Cartridge Box, Full-Colored Instruction Manual, City Sweepers Edition Sticker Set, Certificate of Authenticity, Rosa Felmonde Vinyl Figure, Exclusive Double-Sided Poster, Identification Profile Cards with Envelope, & Crazy Chicken Acrylic Keychain

As with all their Collectors Edition cartridges, Retro-Bit is sensitive to the collecting community and makes these different enough to not be confused with the originals and not affect the value of existing collections. Subtle things like including the Retro-Bit logo on boxes and cartridge labels are just one way, but in the case of Undercover Cops, the Mutant Red SNES cartridge stands out immediately as unique and different from the original, something everyone should appreciate.

As this was a very limited release, you really needed to pre-order either the Standard or Collector's sets. Pre-Orders for ended on Friday March 12th. There may be some open-stock at Castlemania Games, along with other retailers, but there aren't many out there. We did see both the standard and collector's editions on the shelf at Live Action Games in Champaign, IL, so there may be some still out there in the wild.
