Let's take a look at the new RetroTINK 5X Pro! We'll go over its design, basic operation, the remote (and an alternative remote solution), and finally game play!

The settings on the 5X Pro are 1080p Fill (which is the default) and 4:3 or 16:9 depending on what makes sense for the console being used and it’s respective settings. 1080p Over and 1200p modes may produce a better experience depending on the source and cable types, but to a degree, this can be subjective from person to person. I will get to tackling a video showing those modes in the future.

Update Regarding Capture Issue: Having PS2 and Xbox run in Fill/ 4:3 Respectively and setting the 5X Pro to Generic 4:3 helps with the picture alignment in OBS. 16:9 seems to be a possible cause for this issue (console setting, not the 5X Pro).

Update 9/8/2021: A new firmware update (1.74) added a Smooth Filter - intended to work best with 480p Sources. Fixes for “Cropping Issues” we’re said to have been made. After playing around with different inputs and consoles, all of the issues I mentioned with the image being shifted are still present.

Regarding the Smooth Filter, I’ve done some quick tests, and will continue to do more, potentially even dedicating a video to it.

A Correction regarding Harmony. Enter RetroTINK as a "Display" to create solo activities easily. If you are using a TV/Sound Solution in addition to your RetroTINK, you could enter it as a game console instead.

Update 9/10/2021: Another new firmware update has become available: 1.77. Most interesting point is some specificity regarding the Smooth Filter: Generic 4:3/16:9 Output is recommended, but also that the Pre-Emphasis Filter can be set to -1 for a softer effect.

Update 10/11/2021 - Firmware Update 1.99 is available. Between this and 1.98, many things have been adjusted or added - check the 5X Pro Firmware Page for more details.

Update 9/20/2021 - Updated Video showing the new Smooth Filter has gone live (https://youtu.be/cvQen9Ua5hk)

Update 12/21/2021: A giant new firmware update dropped for the 5X Pro - v 2.39. This update changes so much, including a new system menu and more settings. Probably the neatest of the new features is custom scaling and cropping. This fixes the issues I encountered of certain consoles being off center or positioned oddly in the frame. See the video about it here: https://youtu.be/LjVG7ujAoVc

I am in the process of adding new cabling and more to maximize the performance of my favorite consoles. Once I get to a comfortable point, I’ll be doing an updated version of this video and of the set up itself.

Further Updates: The 5X Pro has received a number updates through 2022 that include adding new output Resolutions such as 2560x1440p, the ability to name Profiles, and HDR and VRR Signal Flagging. HDR really helps with CRT Emulation, significantly brightening up content with scanlines enabled.

*Performance of game consoles can be further improved by using better cable options, such S-Video in place of Composite, or alternatives such as HD Retrovision or RGB cables for applicable consoles.
