Ahh... Revenge of the Ninja. This was one of my favorite Sega CD FMV games. I had played it a loooooong time ago at a friend's house when I didn't even know what a Sega CD really was. Now having finally found a copy a few weeks ago, I wanted to make a video for it. Based on a very obscure 1984 Taito Laserdisc/Arcade title, "Ninja Hayate", this is a port of that very old game (Published by Telenet Japan or "Renovations" and developed by Wolf Team), as the Sega CD got several ports of these "Interactive FMV" games. It was also later ported to Playstation and Sega Saturn (where it was combined with Time Gal). The Sega/Mega CD version is the only version of this game released outside of Japan-- not even the original Laserdisc game was released outside Japan. The game's animation was done by Toei Animation.

The game covers 15+ stages of FMV action similar to most other games before and after it. While this game is faaaaar from pretty and isn't really original at all, I like it for its soundtrack, action, comical deaths, often fast pace, short load times for a Sega CD game, and its timed segments are more forgiving than most FMV titles. Time Gal would later take a page from this game (being basically Ninja Hayate with a different setting, some minor gameplay differences, and a goofy female instead of a tough, goofy male). Like Time Gal, many of the levels are played in a random order and the game has a mode to view in-game cutscenes and (supposedly) listen to the soundtrack. As Hayate, you're out to rescue a princess you love from the "Castle of Evil" and fight the undead, massive robots, enemy ninjas, and more. Like Time Gal, once the game is learned, it can be beaten very quickly.
