[Review #9] “fall apart” by bli (Demon)

This is a SICK modern style level that also has a well executed theme. This level seems to be about exploring a medieval castle, and then escaping it as it falls apart, hence the name. The style chosen to show this theme is very clean and easy on the eyes. The gray pillar like structures are simple yet realistic which is cool to see. Something I like that is unique to this level is how the creator incorporated smaller details in a way that makes total sense. Take a look at the arrows in the first few parts for example. In most levels I just see creators throw in arrows haphazardly to fill space, but here they are plastered on signs which fit in with the theme perfectly. Another small detail I appreciated was the words that come in at the top of each part to tell what room of the castle you are in. This not only adds to the story of the level, being that you are roaming this building, but these words also give reasoning as to why certain details and colors are there. As you move into the garden section, you notice how the accent color changed to a warm green, and also how there are little leaves that weren’t in the previous part. The word at the top explains why, which is just a super competent addition. The intensity of the level changes very obviously to go along with the song. I absolutely love the drop at 28%, all of the objects moving and floating around sporadically is so mesmerizing and not overwhelming at all. I also recognize the slight style changes of the blocks, from being primarily gray before to different colors like orange and blue with their own accent colors in different shades. This change was needed and wasn’t too drastic which is why it works so well. The changes between fast and slow parts in this level are so smooth and very consistent visually. Overall this level is just a blast to look at, I just can’t get enough of it! Love myself a well executed theme :)
As for the gameplay, I found it incredibly enjoyable! I can’t think of a single part I didn’t enjoy, the slow parts were satisfying and the fast parts were exhilarating. A part of the level that is hard not to mention is the minigame at 47%. Normally I don’t like bossfights or having a little minigame like this in the middle of a normal level, but this one is great! It’s a very simple concept and super easy and fun to maneuver. It also fits in with the falling apart theme of the level, which makes it all the more familiar and not out of place. I very highly recommend trying this out, it’s a fantastic experience.
