RICHINBAR MINE Trail and Pueblo | It Can't Get Better! | Agua Fria, Arizona
Just one hair-raising turn off of I-17 lies a perfect adventurous trifecta - mining relics, Indian ruins, and astonishing canyon views. The Richinbar Mine Trail and Pueblo is just a short hike across Black Mesa and perfect for a weekend adventure.
High up on a mesa by the Agua Fria Canyon are a few scattered remains of past communities. An easy 2.3-mile loop trail leads to these forgotten places.
To find this location, one must travel north on I-17 from Sunset Point and shortly thereafter is a small dirt parking lot to the right of the Interstate. Use caution exiting and make sure to park as far away from traffic as possible. Here you will see a gate intended to keep cattle from making their way to traffic. The gate is often locked but as the land is public, people are allowed to pass through on foot. Down the trail, visitors will find old remains of what was likely once a ranch but the real goods are further down near the canyon's edge.
First off, the views are positively stunning. Make sure to take time to stop and take them in. You will not be disappointed!
To the north of the trail lie a number of boulders with some well-preserved petroglyphs. Some of the best we've seen!
To the south of the trail are the remains of Richinbar Mine, a gold mine from the early 1900s rumored to have extracted nearly 8000 tons of ore.
In the middle of the loop of the trail are rock wall remains that once was a pueblo of Native American groups that once called the area home.
