It’s the story of a super genius and his less than genius grandson. While it might seem like a crude parody of the relationship in Back to the Future between Marty and Doc Brown, it is carefully and legally distinct from that series. Now. Instead of a time machine built out of a niche built sports car, Rick’s signature invention is the Portal Gun that gives him access to all of space in our reality, but all of space in all realities across the vast unlimited number of dimensions. And it just so happens many of these realities contain their own Rick who has also created a Portal Gun of their own. With all of space and the multiverse at Rick’s disposal, the already super genius super scientist will naturally have access to a series of super science nonsense from Mr. Meeseeks Boxes to a battery that uses a microworld of people to generate its power. To protect the delicate sensibilities of young Morty devices like a memory extractor might need to be employed or a save point device to give the awkward teen that video game luxury of trying again from a saved game. Whether it’s gear meant to parody something at the center of major motion picture like the Dream Inceptor from Inception or the Purge Suit to parody the Purge series or if it’s classic sci fi staples like a time freeze machine or just straight up freeze ray, Rick has seen and invented it all.
