Given that season 7 had the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score and was not as well-received as earlier iterations, there were legitimate worries about how the show would perform following Roiland's departure. This made Rick and Morty season 8 feel like a make-or-break season, especially when paired with a ton of online discussion from disgruntled fans. After Roiland left, the show had two options: either it picked itself up, found more insightful stories, and managed to maintain that timeless, incredible Rick and Morty vibe, or it kept having trouble establishing itself.
Rick and Morty season 8 is excellent so far, demonstrating that the show's creators simply needed a little more time to rethink their concept in the wake of Roiland. It now appears that Rick and Morty season 8 will usher in an exciting new era for the show. To be fair, season 7 of Rick and Morty wasn't totally awful; the episodes "That's Amorte," "Unmorticken," and the season 7 finale, "Fear No Mort," were all regarded as excellent productions. "Fear No Mort," in fact, might be among the series' greatest episodes ever. Nevertheless, Rick and Morty season 8 has gotten off to a much better start than season 7 and should continue to grow.
