Rings of Power Title Sequence isn't CGI = Practical Effects FTW
Watching the IGN video for the Rings of Power title sequence and realizing that it wasn't CGI but practical effects blew my mind, and reminded me of the organic effects of the Lord of the Rings films by Peter Jackson.
I also dive into the history of practical effects on films like the Star Wars trilogy and the original Lord of the Rings films, with miniatures and bigatures making up entire swaths of production and adding a level of detail that you just can't replicate with CGI.
IGN has an article here with more details: https://www.ign.com/articles/lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-title-creation
Obviously we're a long way out from knowing whether or not the show is going to stay true to those organic roots and maintain a focus on practical effects over CGI, but it does fill one with hope.
