Rishi Sunaks five promises What progress has he made
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak outlined five priorities for 2023, and progress has been assessed. Firstly, the government aimed to halve inflation by the end of 2023; however, it stood at 10.7% in late 2022, with experts divided on whether the goal will be met, but the Bank of England expects it to reach 5% by year-end. Secondly, growing the economy is a priority, measured by GDP growth, which has seen some fluctuations. Debt falling as a proportion of GDP is another priority, though it rose above 100% before stabilizing. Fourthly, Mr. Sunak pledged to reduce NHS waiting lists in England, but numbers increased in July, posing a challenge. Lastly, the goal to "stop the boats" bringing migrants across the English Channel is underway, with a decrease in arrivals compared to the previous year.
