A new sculpture named "Strength of the Hijab" designed by Luke Perry is set to celebrate women who wear hijabs and will be installed in Smethwick, West Midlands, in October. This artwork is believed to be the first sculpture of a woman wearing a traditional Muslim head covering, standing at five meters tall and weighing about a tonne. Commissioned by Legacy West Midlands, a charity celebrating post-war migrant communities in Birmingham, the sculpture aims to provide visibility to an underrepresented part of the community. While acknowledging the potential for controversy, Perry emphasizes the importance of representing the diversity of the UK and promoting unity over division.
