Road & Track Presents: The Need For Speed Special Edition - Hero Car: Lamborghini Diablo
Road & Track Presents: The Need For Speed Special Edition was an upgraded version of the first game in the series, which came to the PC in 1996.
The gold-covered UK copy shown here I picked up via a trade-in program EA ran at the time, where you could upgrade your original copy by sending it off and they sent out a Special Edition!
It added a streamlined menu, Windows 95 support (though I'm using DOSBox here for simplicity), early force feedback (if you had a very old device!), time-of-day options, 2 extra stages and the ability to hear the soundtrack whilst racing (I'd forgotten the original lacked that!)
In this video I look at the Lamborghini Diablo, the hero car on both UK and US box art, and show how the car is portrayed in the menu, before taking it out for a run through one of the new stages, Burnt Sienna, against the Ferrari Testarossa.
How do I do in this one? Bear in mind I've not played it for a long time and am using keyboard...!
