Meet the latest game to try to make tower defence any good: Robots in the Wild gameplay takes the core defence experience and turns it into a side-scrolling base defender inspired by classic puzzle games.
The Tetris gameplay part is how you rotate and drop blocks from the sky to form combinations, with the Pipemania element coming into play because those blocks form power supply pipes that keep your turrets firing.
You build turrets and other robots by dropping blocks into particular shapes (such as a figure of 8) and the resulting pattern will automatically become the prescribed robot. But you need to connect it to the pipe network and ensure you have enough battery robots to actually power it. As the aliens attack and damage that network, you need to think on your feet to effectively repair your base.
If the aliens destroy your heart, it's game over.

Official game description:
"An asteroid crash obliterated our Mothership, the only home we have ever known. The tragic impact scattered our precious cargo, HEARTS, far and wide across the galaxy. Into the Wild. It's now up to us to rescue them. We need to complete the Main Objective.
It’s up to you to build them a fortress strong enough to last through the terrifying, Alien-Monster filled nights. Drop blocks to build Robots that shoot lasers, illuminate the dark -- or even make more Blocks to build other Robots! So many possible combinations of Robots that every player's stronghold will be unique. And you're going to need all the base-building skills you've got because the Wild only gets tougher. Every. Single. Night."
