ROG Ally 90 Degree NVMe Mod, 2230 - 2280

I had a few people in the community ask me about my ROG ally 2280 NVMe Mod. Well...

It went very smooth and  Yes the adaptors work.

I did have to snip a few of the plastic tabs on the inside of the back cover for the full sized nvme to clear. So this mod most likely VOIDS WARRANTY.

Currently I am using a 4TB Corsair MP600. So it only has NAND chips on one side of the NVMe board but from what I hear and have seen myself there is clearance for an 8TB (NAND on both sides)

Initially I just place the plastic heat deflector back over the APU and NVMe instead of between them as a shield. (in the beginning of the video)  But during gaming my temps got too high. 73C because the plastic heat flap was holding the heat in and preventing airflow over the NVMe. I opened it a second time (later in video) and modified the plastic heat deflector to go under the nvme and shield it from the heat pipes on the APU. This allowed for better air flow over the NVMe as well. It brought my temps from 73C max down to 34C max under load & gaming.

If you do this mod, I recommend modifying that plastic heat shield, as I did, to keep the temps lower and prevent premature NVMe failure. I believe even with a 8Tb drive the NAND on the underside will be fine temp wise. But I haven't tested it myself.
