Any% speedrun of Elevator Action Returns [エレベーターアクション リターンズ] as Kart Bradfield in 13:18.634. Elevator Action Returns (Ver 2.2O 1995/02/20) played on MAME 0225 (default difficulty/dipswitches).

Used a lot of new strats I've wanted to put into an any% run for a while, but also failed a couple of Kart specific things. Been a couple of years since last PB! Tiny bit of commentary on notable changes/mistakes here as a self reminder for my future attempts.

00:25 Stage 1 Shooting the lights to keep Stage 1 from being boring somehow.

01:30 Stage 2

01:52 Having a proper strategy for the jetpack fights; diagonal shots for the high flyers and horizontal shots when the "woosh" SFX goes off (for the jetpacks trying to land).

02:37 7 shots, bomb. 5 shots, bomb (repeat until 1 bomb left).

03:02 Get shot (shoot him after he shoots to prevent him from playing with elevators) then drop to red door. Doesn't seem to save as much time as I thought it would over old strat because of elevator cycles and general enemy interference, but got it to work out this run.

03:54 Stage 3 Making sure not to touch the walls on the way up the first elevator to avoid messing up later elevator cycles. Weird how this works...?!

04:11 Making sure to be spotted on the right side of the second camera so that it is facing left later on.

04:21 Walking in and out of the far right camera vision to try to spawn the trench coat in the next room to bring elevator down (can do this 3 times before missing important elevator cycles). Failed to spawn him here; definitely spawned some troublemakers in the wrong place. (Note: spawning him does not guarantee he will take the elevator down.)

06:20 Better use of bombs (bomb use after burning jetpackers disappear at the bottom of the screen to hit the next wave). Failed to move forward and use upward angled rockets here, but better bomb allowed for a spammy finish.

07:18 Stage 4

07:37 Very important intentional minor stop here realigns the next elevator cycles. Run through the next 2 elevators unhindered and more importantly desynching the later two elevators (higher elevator spawns? after the lower elevators causing a helpful desync).

08:42 Stage 5

09:07 Reminder: jump only works if it is instant upon exiting door and returning to neutral (falls faster; holding forward will keep you airborne longer and cause iframes to expire before landing)

09:40 New bomb here gets rid of any RNG spawns. Exit red door after far left elevator reaches above floor.

09:51 Elevator fumble (reach elevator and move it up ASAP, ~then~ walk right while it rises to sneak under the turret gunshot to have time to make the running jump to the next elevator.)

10:16 Successful elevator/camera manipulations until the end.

11:03 Stage 6 Forgot to shoot rolling barrel here instead of using a bomb (no time save; just style). Used the first elevator for the long ride down which introduces a bit of RNG (enemies can spawn early and delay or crush me with elevator), but it turned out well.

12:01 Intentional death here, messy climb but minimal time loss being shot while elevator was already rising.

12:23 Bombing when lift reaches the L-shaped pipes to the right of the elevator to bounce it up to the next floor.

13:15 Forgot to start new fight strat once Red Suit starts doing crouching shots. Missed negating his bullets with rockets a few times (Once he starts low shots, stay up top and fire as late as possible to prevent damage while also allowing the resulting rocket explosion behind him to damage him after his iframes fade away.)

Late split and skipped ending because I felt like mashing buttons in celebration like a bozo. Retimed to 13:18.634.

Sum of best segments is currently 12:58.94.
