Rule Of Rose Walkthrough Part 7: The Gingerbread House
Having remembered her childhood promise, Jennifer wakes up back in the room where she collected the stories that helped her remember it only to discover that the boy vanished. With the boy gone and no more stories to read, Jennifer prepares to head out of the room, only to end up grabbed by an uneseen person and dragged off. Soon afterwards, Jennifer wakes up in the middle of the rose patch at an unknown location in the middle of the night and sees an unknown man leaving. Deciding to follow him, Jennifer ends up in front of a large rural house and, upon peeking through its basement window, sees that the man whom she followed is inside, apparently contemplating suicide. Entering the house, Jennifer starts to investigate it, discovering that the mysterious man whom she followed inside is the owner of the house and is actually a farmer from Cardington named Gregory M. Wilson. As she searches the house, Jennifer discovers that Gregory had a son named Joshua, who got sick and eventually died, causing grief-stricken Gregory to descend into severe depression that was further excerbated by his alcoholism with Jennifer also finding a news article from 1929 implying that Gregory abducted local children in order to "replace" his dead son and killed them, having likely went insane from grief for his son. As she descends into the house's basement, Jennifer is greeted by Gregory who refers to her as Joshua before leaving the basement and locking Jennifer inside. As she investigates the basement room, Jennifer discovers that it has been converted into a boy's bedroom, confirming that Gregory likely kidnapped children and even more disturbingly, that he had kidnapped her after she became an orpahan following an airship crash during the summer of 1929 due to her physical resembleance to Joshua with Jennifer also discovering the letters confirming that she started a correspondence with someone who promised to help her escape Gregory's captivity. After managing to dislodge a teddy bear placed on top of the wardrobe and collecting it, house's basement window is approached by Wendy, one of the children from Aristocrats' airship who is revealed to have been the one she had maintained a correspondence with, despite Wendy obviously being at least decade younger than Jennifer, seemingly making it impossible for the two to have known each other in 1929. Regardless, Wendy manages to enter the house and unlock the basement door, allowing Jennifer to leave with her with Wendy also deciding to steal Gregory's revolver, justifying it by claiming that taking the gun from him will be for his own good. Afterwards, two girls leave Gregory's house and run back to the nearby rose patch where Wendy asks Jennifer for the teddy bear she collected in the basement of Gregory's house in exchange for a red brooch with Jennifer agreeing. With two agreeing to name the bear Joshua upon Jennifer's suggestion, they also make a promise to each other which ends up stating "everlasting true love, i am yours", eerily mirroring Jennifer's childhood promise apparently meant for someone else...
