This quest is super easy.
Few chokepoints:
The lowbranch herb "The Guns" needs are against the walls of the Tower of Life.

When tracking, the trail never changes; you may have to start over, but it never changes so utilized memorization skills.

The Mermaids need to hear:
"The Thalassus has eaten Jones the mighty fisherman."
"It should, he's been hunting for decades."
"Very horrid! After he's killed the Thalassus, he'll probably come after you."
"Trust me, I'm a great adventurer, I should know."
"Did I mention Jones has a harpoon with him?"
"It's no ordinary harpoon."

After the quest, you can hunt the Thalassus 10 more times for total of 72K hunting xp (if you include XP from beating the quest).
