Installing Docker
--------------------------------------------------------------------
   01. Log into the Linux host and run the following commands in a terminal window
         # install prerequisites
         sudo apt install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl software-properties-common gnupg-agent -y
         # add docker gpg key
         curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/$(awk -F'=' '/^ID=/{ print $NF }' /etc/os-release)/gpg | sudo apt-key add -
         # add docker software repository
         sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=$(dpkg --print-architecture)] https://download.docker.com/linux/$(awk -F'=' '/^ID=/{ print $NF }' /etc/os-release) $(lsb_release -cs) stable"
         # install docker
         sudo apt install docker-ce docker-compose containerd.io -y
         # enable and start docker service
         sudo systemctl enable docker && sudo systemctl start docker
         # add the current user to the docker group
         sudo usermod -aG docker $USER
         # reauthenticate for the new group membership to take effect
         su - $USER

Running Home Assistant Container
--------------------------------------------------------------------
   01. Continue with the following commands in a terminal window
         # create working directories
         mkdir ~/docker/home-assistant -p
         # set owner of working directories
         sudo chown "$USER":"$USER" ~/docker -R
         # run the home assistant container
         docker run -d --name home-assistant --privileged -e TZ=America/New_York -v ~/docker/home-assistant:/config --network=host --restart=unless-stopped homeassistant/home-assistant
   02. Open a web browser and navigate to http://DNSorIP:8123/
   03. Wait while Home Assistant initializes
   04. Enter a Name, Username and Password to create a Home Assistant user account ≫ Click Create Account
   05. Enter a Name for this Home Assistant installation (ie Home)
   06. Click Detect to set the installation geolocation
   07. Verify the Unit System and Currency ≫ Click Next
   08. Select any anonymous data to share with the Home Assistant development team ≫ Click Next
   09. Click Finish
   10. Welcome to Home Assistant
