Running the Batman Arkham City Demo on the Windows Surface Pro
Game - Batman Arkham City
Publisher - Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment (http://www.wbgames.com)
Developer - Rocksteady Studios (http://rocksteadyltd.com/)
Running the video benchmark that comes in the game. Note that without the recording software enabled, the game plays at 30-40 FPS using these settings with no issues. Video Settings for this clip:
Resolution 1280 X 720
V Sync - Yes
Anti-Aliasing - Disabled
Direct X 11 Features - Off
Direct X 11 Tessellation - Off
Detail Level - High
Dynamic Shadows - No
Motion Blur - No
Distortion - No
Lens Flares - No
Light Shafts - No
Reflections - No
Ambient Occlusion - No
Hardware Accelerated PhysX(TM) - Off
While these settings will not win any awards with the videophiles, the game does not look that bad for the box its running on. And for us road warriors that want a smaller print box to carry around where we can do real work, and if possible play some games, it might be good enough. For one thing, it looks, its more fun and plays better than any game on my iPad or Nexus 10.
This video was uploaded under the Fair Use (http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html) Doctrine answering the following questions
1. The purpose and character of the use - The original content is a video game created for entertainment purposes. We in turn, are using a clip from this game to review if the game can or can not run efficiently on the Microsoft Surface Pro or other hardware, which in turn is a completely different use than that intended of the original content.
2. The nature of the copyrighted work - We are reviewing a fictional based video game.
3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole- All clips are less than 10 minutes to give us a reasonable play time to demonstrate the viability of playing such a game under the Microsoft Surface Pro or other hardware.
4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work - Since our videos are just a reviewing on how the game plays on a particular hardware, our video reviews could never be a substitute for playing the game itself.
