The new runway extension at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province has been officially opened. Now over two miles long, the runway can take the biggest cargo and passenger jets, promising a quicker trip home for thousands of British forces serving in southern Afghanistan. The extension is now capable of accommodating RAF TriStar aircraft, VC10 and C17 troop carriers.
